Final Exams at the Testing Center

Menu of Faculty Information Pages

All Final Exams at Penn State are scheduled by the Registrar according to faculty senate policy 44-20. Finals are requested by unit scheduling coordinators. Only courses that have tested in the Testing Center during that semester may request e-Test finals.

Final Exam Request Process for Pollock Testing Center Courses

  1. Prior to the beginning of classes, ask your unit scheduling coordinator to request an eTest final in LionPATH. The scheduler will know how to do this or can contact the Registrar for assistance.
  2. Courses that have not made a request in LionPATH by 3:00 p.m. on the first day of classes will be ineligible for consideration for an eTest final. We have an early deadline (day 1 of the semester) because the Registrar cannot schedule any other finals until we have completed our process.
  3. We receive from the Registrar a list of courses that requested eTest finals. We remove any course that has not used the Testing Center for the current semester. Only courses that can fit into the testing center on a single day will be considered a final in the Testing Center. All other courses are returned to the Registrar for scheduling in a classroom computer lab (STEC).
  4. We send an email to the instructors whose courses may fit into the Testing Center with the following request, which must be returned within 24-hours:
    • Exam length in minutes, up to 75 minutes.
    • Materials students can bring into the Testing Center.
  5. Instructors scheduled in the Testing Center will be notified and given instructions on how to proceed. Final exam requests are prioritized as listed below.

Courses that do not fit into the Testing Center are returned to the Registrar. The Registrar will then attempt to fit the remaining courses into Classroom Computer Lab rooms or normal rooms as required.

How We Prioritize the Testing Center Final Exam Schedule

The Testing Center and STEC classrooms have limitations that inform our decision-making process. To optimize use of space, we schedule using the following parameters.

  • Per university policy, a course final must be on a single day.
  • The largest courses are scheduled first.
  • Courses that will fit into a half-day are scheduled next.
  • All remaining courses are fit into the rest of the schedule.

Pollock Testing Center Finals Capacity

  • For a 50-minute final that fits in a 60-minute timeslot, the maximum capacity is 2250 students.
  • For a 60-minute final that fits in a 75-minute timeslot, the maximum capacity is 1800 students.
  • For a 75-minute final that fits in a 90-minute timeslot, the maximum capacity is 1500 students.
